It’s consolidation time in online self-publishing as AuthorHouse, one of the largest online self-publishing firms takes out iUniverse, based in Lincoln, Neb., for an undisclosed sum reports Paid Content, which goes on to say:

The great hope of hard-pressed newspapers has been that their online traffic and revenues would rise soon enough and fast enough to replace their evaporating print advertising. But there is some evidence (as I’ve blogged once or twice before) that traffic flows to most online news sites have flattened. While a few national and brand name online dailies continue to grow, the rest of the online dailies stagnate.

Joel Kramer to bring public radio model to the web?
From Minneapolis comes news that Joel Kramer, former publisher of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, has lined up $1.1. million ($850K from four Twin Cities’ families plus $250K in Knight Foundation support) to launch a five-day, web-based daily called MinnPost.com.
Industry zine Paid Content says the new site ”will feature traditional-style front page stories [...]
Mark Glaser, editor of PBS’s MediaShift says the chorus of stories about layoffs at big newspapers obscures the healthy job creation at local and online media. In a piece partially titled “Digital Additions,” Glaser reports that:

MediaPost’s Eric Sass writes about an eMarketer report that says Internet ad sales should pass those of radio for the first time in 2007. Sass writes:
“eMarketer is pegging Internet ad spending at $21.7 billion compared to $20.4 billiob for radio.”
Last week Veronis Shuler Stevenson predicted the Internet would surpass television’a ad sales total by 2011.
