Why? Because the Huffington Post doesn't even pay several of its star writers. Hopefully the industry isn't going in that direction. I turned 30 last fall and have been seriously considering a switch to a career in journalism...so much so that I actually applied to MA programs this year. I've actually been rejected at most of the schools (including your alma mater) but one piece of feedback from a respected local program that I got was that I had skill and merit as a writer, but little real experience in the field. I don't have any clips under my belt, in other words. What kinds of things would you suggest to a person trying to make a career change in terms of making some contacts and finding outlets for their writing? Thanks! Tom,
