To add to what Doug said, kind of the whole point of Fark is to expose the extent to which most "news" isn't really news at all...hence the tagline, "It's not news, it's FARK.com." It's not that FARK isn't news...the NEWS isn't news!

If you haven't already, please check out Drew's book, or any of the many interviews he's given since its publication. He's highly critical of the Paris Hiltonization of what passes for news, and the fact that he's managed to make a buck being so is perhaps the most encouraging bit of news about the news I've seen lately.

Can't disagree with any of your major points, but I would like to put in a word for Fark, which I enjoyed back in the day when I had more time for undirected web surfing. I used to find myself laughing out loud at the way people were rewriting news story headlines and articles and otherwise having fun with news on the Web. Obviously this is no substitute for the real task of reporting the stories of our lives and our world. But there's a place for Fark.com, just as there is a place for Jon Stewart and The Daily Show -- because, among other reasons, they do such a good job of pointing out the absurdities of corporate journalism today, and, thus, imo, bring people closer to that ever-elusive "complete" and "objective" view of the "news".

A newspaper today can be printed in Paris but delivered in Tokyo – that same very moment. Publishers can sell more copies, without ever printing them. A newspaper can be published in print, web, mobile and iPods – in the same go. Companies like Pressmart (www.pressmart.net) help print Publishers in distributing their content on multiple delivery channels including web, mobile, RSS, podcast, social media and search engines over a seamless 360-degree full-service platform.
